Dealing With Collection Agencies

It’s National Consumer Protection Week!  Don’t fall victim to the many scams that take Billions of dollars every year from unsuspecting people.

The topic today is one we’re quite familiar with at Center for Financial Education: debt collection practices. We are not here to help folks get out of debts they owe; we are here to help them understand what their rights are under the law, and how many companies do not comply with those laws.
According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, collectors are only allowed to call consumers between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. local time, and they may not contact you at work, if your employer doesn’t permit personal phone calls. Other rights and protections you have as a consumer can be found here.
Collectors use a lot of scare tactics. Don’t let them get to you.
If you have debts, and collection agencies calling you, and you’re just not sure what to do, come talk to us. We’re here to help you gain confidence as a consumer, and guide you how to get and stay out of debt.
